Vintage Japanese Silver Perfume Bottle Brooch 1940s CPO Art Deco Asian Chatelaine Pin Antique Estate Jewelry Rare Post WW2 Japan Gift for Her
Offered is this antique SILVER Asian perfume bottle that is also worn as a brooch. It has the vintage trombone clasp which is in proper working order, holding tightly and securely. The perfume stopper can be removed and it has a long dauber.
Marked: "silver" and "CPO" inside a triangle/square on the back of the perfume.
"CPO stands for Central Purchasing Office/Organization (I found info using both terms) and is often found on Japanese items made between 1946 and 1948 when the US operated a centralized buying system for US Army and navy bases in Japan. C.P.O. was marked on Cameras, and other Metal items during the M.I.O.J. period of the Japanese Occupation after WW2. Gen. Douglas Macarthur's group set it up as a US Army division to get the economy of Japan going after, "Unconditional Surrender" on Sept 2, 1945. The nature of a devastating War left little to no metal stocks for manufacturing goods and a destroyed industrial and civilian populations. The CPO office selected the manufacturers product based on the quality of the design. It was not an easy process to get approval. This is great piece of vintage Asian Japanese jewelry that is so highly sought after!
Measures: 3 inches long and top pin is 1 3/4 inches wide at the widest point.
