This a high speed steel tool blank. Unused.
Its from my fathers machine shop that closed in the 1960s.
He ran a lathe that made a hydroelectric generators center shaft.
8 hours per pass. A big job and a big lathe tool to do it.
16 " Lathe tool bit blank. made of High Speed Steel.
Stamped REX AAP.
size : 16 1/8 " x 1 1/4 " x 3/4".
Weighing 4.5 lbs.
Still has sharp edges. covered with grinding marks that is typical for tool blanks.
Due to its size, it is more expensive than the several tools that can be made by cutting it up.
It would have been used on very large work pieces. Like hydro-electric turbine generators.
New these cost near $300.
Sold as is, so look at the photos carefully.
I do have others in a smaller store size.
Also a pair vice jaws made from high speed steel in a similar size.
