Paris 1812 FLORIAN Numa Pompilius FRENCH EPIC NOVEL Ancient Rome FINE CALF BINDING

Numa Pompilius, Numa Pompilius (born 753 BCE, died 673 BCE [1]) - the legendary second king of Rome (successor of Romulus), a Sabine from the city of Kures. Organizer of religious life in Rome.

His wife was to be the nymph Egeria. store He was known for his wisdom, piety, and a peaceful attitude. According to tradition, he initiated the state cult of gods in Rome, created the so-called Capitoline Triad appointing priests for Jupiter (flamen dialis), Mars (flamen Martialis) and Quirinus (flamen Quirinalis). He introduced, among others, the cult of Vesta, the goddess of the hearth, for whom he built a temple (actually dated by archaeologists based on the stratigraphy of the Roman Forum, around 650 BCE). During his reign, a twelve-month calendar was created. He also introduced a division into working days (dies fasti) and holidays (dies nefasti) [2]. He pursued a peaceful policy.

Jean-Pierre Claris de Florian (March 6, 1755 in the Florian Castle near Sauve, Gard - September 13, 1794 in Sceaux) was a French poet, novelist and fairy tale writer.
