store Superb A C & H Crane Wolverhampton heater box iron with hollow iron body, sliding back door with lifting handle, turned-wood handle and original heater / slug embossed with size and maker's name.
A rare, complete and well-preserved item. A gorgeous home accent, period prop or shop window display.
We found this particular model documented in the Crane Foundry 1928 catalogue (see last picture), but of course it could be even earlier than that.
Crane Foundry produced a wide range of irons. Heater box irons were heated by a piece of hot iron, known as a slug, which was heated on the kitchen range, in front of the fire or in an oven and inserted into the iron while still hot. This must have been a tricky operation as careful handling was required.

H = 17cm (to handle)
L = 15.5cm
W = 10cm max
Weight = 3kg (incl. slug)
Condition is excellent considering age, with just some old scratches and loss of paint due to friction, especially on the sliding gate.
We examined this item carefully and found no issues other than those described, yet we know from experience that some minor flaw can always go unnoticed, so please take a close look at the photographs as they form part of the description, and do not hesitate to ask if you'd like more details.
