Stunning minimalist stoneware candle holder that also looks great used as a vase. Hand thrown and hand glazed by Aage Würtz in his own studio. The black glazing is broken by two lines of clear glazing, creating a cracking effect, a signature element in Würtz designs of that period. The glazing details and tones of this design vary from item to item, making each item completely unique.
Excellent vintage condition: no chips or cracks.

About the Designer:
Aage Würtz entered the ceramist profession in Denmark in the 1970s, inspired by Scandinavian craft traditions and the Bernard Leach's mid century studio pottery movement. He worked with an interest in small-scale production and organic form making. The bulb vase design, made in the late 1970s or early 1980s, is exemplary of this exploration. After taking a break from ceramics, Aage Würtz in the early 2000s reentered the field. In collaboration with his son, he founded the successful ceramic studio KH Würtz, known for their innovative explorations of organic form making, texturing and pigmenting. KH Würtz now produces special orders for retail clients internationally, especially catering to New Nordic cuisine restaurants such as Michelin Star rated Noma in Copenhagen and Torst in New York.
