Vintage, large, mabe store pearl earrings, mid 20th century.

Vintage, mid 20th century, cultured pearl earrings. The pearls are Mabé pearls, also known as blister store pearls which are half-pearls that are cultivated on the inside of a mollusc's shell. A small nucleus, usually made out of mother of pearl, is attached to the shell of the mollusc and left to accumulate nacre over a period of several years. The pearls in these earrings are beautiful with lovely flashes of iridescence and irregularities to the surface of the pearls when examined. The setting is silver in tone; it acid tests positive for silver. I have examined the earrings but I can find no markers marks or hallmarks, however they are excellent quality.

The earrings measure 2.2 cm, or 0.9 inches, across.
