This is a Holmegaard glass decanter with its original stopper in Per Lütken's Ramona design. In clear smokey grey, the decanter is an updated version of the flagon design with a level base and bulbous body coming up to a narrow neck. The matching stopper is the original and has a flattened store top reflecting the lip of the decanter base. There are no maker's marks. This is a heavy item measuring approximately 10.5 inches [17cm] with its lid in place, the diameter of the flask being about 7 inches [18cm] at its widest. Condition is very good for a vintage piece - there are minor signs of wear to the base but I have found no chips or cracks to the glass.
Holmegaard, Denmark's oldest glassworks, has a longstanding tradition of producing work of high quality. Founded in 1825 by Countess Henriette Danneskiold-Samsøe, the factory initially made glass bottles introducing tableware in the 1830s. During the mid 20th Century they employed many of the country's leading contemporary designers, notably including Michael Bang, Otto Brauer and Per Lütken. The widely-collected Ramona design was created by Lütken in 1953.
