Product code: Vintage c1960 store Forest Oil Painting sgd Marche-Shanker (Kenneth Dickerson Frame)
Up for sale is an absolutely incredible oil on canvas board depicting a dark impressionist forest scene. The painting is a very interesting mystery. It appears to be unsigned on front, but on back the artist is identified as "Marche-Shanker." I haven't found any information on this artist (and not even sure that is the artist). Adding to the mystery is that the frame is stamped with an artist's stamp of Kenneth Dickerson, who was a self-trained African American artist of some repute, who worked out of the Bronx in New York. It's possible this piece was created by Dickerson (and the Marche-Shanker) appellation is a title of some sort. In any case, it's a beauty and looks amazing. The painting is in excellent condition. The interior wood of the store frame has quite a bit of peeling paint. The linen matting has some staining and the outer wood shows some scuffs. Painting measures 12 inches wide x 9 inches high. Frame measures approximately 16.5 inches wide x 13.5 inches high.
