This is a very rare example of John Purdon, Jr.'s classic summary of Pennsylvania's law enacted from 1700 through 1811 entitled, "An Abridgment of the Laws of Pennsylvania." It was a staple of law offices in the 19th century and was printed in several editions. This is the revised second edition, as the first was printed in 1801. It is bound in smooth calfskin, with a slight rope-design around the cover borders. The spine has a Red Morocco Leather title block with the gilt lettered title "Purdon's Abridgment." Boards are cracked at the spine but attached and the leather has some chipping & scuffing consistent with a more than 200-year-old book. Pages are in heavy cotton rag typical of the time, evenly toned, with some foxing. All pages present. Some light period pencil notes inside back cover. Published in Philadelphia by Farrand, Hopkins, Zantziger, and Co. Printed by Fry and Kammerer. Measures 9.25" x 5.75" x 1.75". Weight store about 1 lb 14 oz. Great book for historian or attorney.
