This is a stunning early American pressed glass (EPG) large compote bowl. The bowl itself has 4 distinct sections. The bottom tier has embossed Xes, then a thumbprint design, then a diamond cut ring and finally a slightly flared rim of squares defined by double vertical lines. It has a paneled stem with similar designs. The compote bowl measures 12 1/4" tall and 10" in diameter. Both the bowl and stem are equal in hight, about 6" tall. It is very heavy and sturdy, weighing in at a whopping 8.4 pounds. It is in excellent condition. The clear pressed glass is shiny and bright and sparkles in the sun. There are no chips, cracks, cloudiness or wear. Its simply perfect.
While most of us don't make compote or trifles any more, this beautiful bowl has a lot of other potential uses. It displays beautifully on its own. Or, use it as a centerpiece bowl for a large entrance area or banquet table. Its also large enough to use a a punch bowl for egg nog during the holidays. Whatever you do with it, it will certainly be the statement piece of your vintage glass collection. store
