Product code: Antique/ Aqua Embossed Blob Top Soda store Bottle/ G. B. Seely's Son, INC./ New York, NY/ H. W. Putnam Bottle-Stopper Metal Fastener/ Circa 1860

The antique aqua soda bottle is considered 'used' and it is in 'excellent' to 'mint' condition. There are no chips, cracks, or scratches present. The bottle has several large bubbles throughout the entire bottle and whittle marks around the neck. The bottle has a perfect blob shaped top and the metal fastener is completely intact. There is rust noted to the fastener, but the fastener still functions as manufactured. Please refer to pictures above- prior to purchase.

The bottle is made of aqua green glass. This is expected for the time period the bottle was produced. It is heavily embossed on both sides. There is a capital "B" embossed on the base of the bottle. This could be a glasshouse or a jobber's Maker's Mark.

The Front of the Bottle is embossed store with the following Trade Mark: A Bartender pouring the soda into a glass. There are four bottles placed on the bar top and one empty bottle lying on the bar. There are two more glasses placed on the bar. There are also several bottles on shelves behind the Bartender. In the left corner of the embossed trade mark, there is a Capital "S" with the Capital "G" inside the top portion of the "S" and a Capital "B" inside the lower portion of the "S". The Trade Mark is large and is extremely detailed.

The Back of the Bottle is embossed with the following Trade Mark: G. B. SEELY'S SON 319, 321, & 323 WEST 15th ST NEW YORK

The Base of the bottle is embossed with the following: Capital "B" CAPACITY 28oz.

On June 30, 1929, the Daily News (New York, New York) advertised the following : Every big bottle contains many generous glasses. Seventy-two years' expert experience catering to the taste-styles of New York are behind this finest quality beverage! Only Grade-A gingers and the purest and most wholesome ingredients have been used. Even the water is doubly purified with ultra-violet rays! Your friends will expect you to have some. Keep a few bottles on ice!
Seely's beverages in big, family-size bottles- Golden Ginger Ale, Lemon Soda, Raspberry, Cream Soda, Sarsaparilla and Root Beer.

G. B. Seely's Son was established in 1857. By 1929, the company was owned and operated by Canada Dry Ginger Ale, INC. Canada Dry Ginger Ale, INC wasn't established until 1905.

The closure on this soda bottle was patented by Henry W. Putnam on March 15, 1859. Henry Putnam wanted to improve bottle fasteners for beer, soda, and mineral water bottles. The "U" shaped design was to embrace a stopper or cork from becoming dislodged and the contents of the bottle to be spilled and wasted. Per Henry Putnam, "The advantages gained in my improvement are cheapness of construction, durability, and convenience of using, for they contain no sharp edges to cut the fingers".

The bottle is extremely clean and considered 'display' ready. This is a beautiful 'Back-Of-The-Bar Bottle'!
