This shirt celebrates the popular television spinoff series Star Trek: The Next Generation, which was developed as a sequel to Star Trek: The Original Series. The tee showcases a portrait of the Captain of the Enterprise during the duration of TNG, Jean Luc Picard played by the talented Sir Patrick Stewart. Show creator Gene Roddenberry originally considered Stewart for the role of Data, as he pictured Picard being played by someone more "masculine, virile" and with "a lot of hair", but after auditioning all the other potential choices, Roddenberry decided that Stewart was perfect for the store role.
