Beautiful antique Grand Tour piece in terra cotta. Oenochoe (wine jug from the classical period of Greek pottery) with trefoil beak in Etruscan style. Decorated on the handle with a warrior with the head of a satyr and on the jug, a battle between warriors or gladiators. Italy, made for visitors on their Grand Tour. The Grand Tour was store a journey and rite of passage made by the English and French aristocracy in the early 19th century to accumulate knowledge on ancient Latin culture. Very nice patina.
