Vintage Hand Drawn Parang Batik Shawl

Elephant symbolize the figure of the wise protector, well-educated, has a power, and calm. These characters must be possessed by leaders. Word "Birowo" means power. This batik believed can emit the authority aura for the wearer.

The style is called gajah birowo. This batik features elephants, butterflies, vines and isen as background. The colors are brown (as background), black, and ivory (as motifs).

Condition: Has a short stitch but still in good condition as seen in picture (you may ask for more detailed pictures just send us a message).

Used to be worn as daily clothing as hip wrapper, tight around as sarong/bottom for Indonesian men/women especially in Java island, before the more practical western style of pants and skirts became daily clothing.

A handdrawn batik is produced through labourious work, started from hand sketching, applying wax painting on each dots and strokes to resist coloring, and accordingly successive coloring processes. Each piece can take up from 1-4 months of work depending on the complexity and sophistication of the motif.
