Geodesic Lantern, store Decorative Gourd Lamp, Gourd Lantern, Geometric Pattern, Diagonal Pattern, Light Pattern, Drilled Gourd, Round Light
This decorative gourd lamp is a geodesic lantern -- a gourd lantern with a geometric pattern (diagonal pattern) drilled into it to let the light pattern show out. The lamp was made from a real gourd, a round one called a cannonball. I drew vertical and horizontal lines, then connected the corners of the resulting squares to make diagonal lines. I carved those lines and drilled holes of different sizes store in each direction.
I'm very proud of this work. It took a lot of thought; then measuring, drawing, carving, and drilling (1340 holes!). And it turned out great! It takes the right shape gourd, of course; but it also takes a steady hand. It sheds a wonderful pattern of light across the walls and ceiling of the room. Magical!
Most of my pieces are dyed in the tan/brown family, to preserve the true color of the gourd. This one is, too. And you'll notice that the diagonal lines are lighter. That's because the inner gourd, under the hard shell, is lighter in color. I use that in my work to give contrast naturally.
As with all of my work, this "Geodesic Lantern" is made by hand, by me, personally.
Cannonball gourds are about 4-6 inches in diameter. There is a 1-inch hole in the back to insert the included lamp cord and LED bulb.
Please keep in mind that every gourd is different, even if it's the same variety. The photos shown here are examples of what this item will look like. Your gourd might not look exactly like this one. But I'll choose a gourd that will fit the shape of the item and will do my best to make it look like the one you're choosing. And if it doesn't sit well, I'll add a base, also made from a gourd.
A lamp cord and LED night light bulb are included.
