I tested it out with some D batteries the first set didn't work too well and then I went and bought a higher end battery just alkaline not super expensive and from what I can tell everything seemed to work just great but I don't know a lot about these store this is my father's he has a lot of older vehicles like this so it's sold as is but I do believe everything works please see photos for details thank you.
